Preserve what you learn

Turn a useful join, query, and explanation into project knowledge that the next investigation can reuse.

Shared knowledge loopExploring

The problem

Once someone understands the data, does the next person still have to rediscover it?

A good investigation uncovers more than one answer: it reveals which fields matter, which joins are safe, and which assumptions are false. If that knowledge stays in a notebook or chat thread, the next person starts from zero.

A clearer workflow

  1. Save the working query

Give the query a name that describes the business question, not only its SQL or DTQL syntax.

  2. Explain the relationship

Record why the tables connect and what a result does or does not mean.

  3. Review and reuse

Keep project definitions and reusable queries in a repository so changes can be inspected alongside the work they support.

What changes

A one-off discovery becomes a starting point for teammates, future incidents, and new questions.
