Keep the numbers on a dashboard

Put saved queries, charts and cards on a board, open it from the project, and step through the data the same way every time.

The problem

When a question comes back every morning, do you rerun the same queries one by one?

Status questions such as orders at risk or shipments this month get answered by rerunning several queries and pasting results into a slide. The view goes stale, and nobody knows which query produced it.

A clearer workflow

  1. Bind saved queries

Each widget references a saved query from the project library, so the board shows the same definition the team reviews.

  2. Choose the presentation

Show results as grids or charts, such as bars and trends, and add cards beside them.

  3. Open and run

Open the board from the project and run its widgets when you need them. Boards live in the project with its queries.

Starting question

Where were Northwind orders shipped, month by month?

Steps to follow

  1. Follow “Open the showcase board” to open Orders in motion, the demo project’s visual showcase.
  2. Play the bar race to step through the months, or switch to Monthly trend or Source rows to see the same data another way.
  3. Expand “How this dashboard is built” to see how the board is put together.

What you learn

The board charts 830 Northwind orders from July 2016 to May 2018 by shipping country, from data you can inspect row by row.

What changes

A recurring status check becomes a board anyone can open, built on queries the team can inspect.

In the demo story

An “Orders at risk” board puts order 11045 beside other unshipped orders; later, the shipping board shows its milestones, stage timings and route readiness.

The guided demo of this story is being built. The worked example above runs in today’s demo project.
